From a three-star temple to a family-run mountain hut - seven recommendations for the nights you leave the house behind.

SanBrite, Cortina d'Ampezzo. Riccardo and Ludovica Gaspari's Michelin-star farm-to-fork in a modern chalet - almost every ingredient comes from their own alpine farm. Twenty-five minutes from the house.

Da Aurelio, Passo Giau. A small mountain restaurant at 2,236 m on one of the most scenic Dolomite passes, with a strictly local, ambitious kitchen. Ask for a table with the Marmolada in view.

Rifugio Comici, Selva Val Gardena. Ski-in ski-out at the foot of the Sassolungo - one of the most famous mountain restaurants in the world, and rightly so. Book weeks ahead.

Jimmi Hütte, Passo Gardena, Colfosco. A design-forward high-altitude hut with modern alpine cooking and a wine list that keeps up. Their website hints at the aesthetic - the plate keeps its promise.

AlpiNN, Plan de Corones. Norbert Niederkofler's mountain-top restaurant at 2,275 m - his three-star philosophy in a lighter format, arriving by gondola with a panorama on all sides.

Osteria Ansitz Heufler, Anterselva. A historic South Tyrolean estate turned quiet restaurant - worth a look at their own website for pacing and tone alone, and worth the drive for the room and the cellar.

Fienile Monte, Passo Sella. A striking modern hut perched under the Sella group, with contemporary alpine cooking and one of the most talked-about wine lists in the Dolomites.
